This research was conducted by AC “Socioconsulting” at the request of the ICF “Ukrainian Foundation for Public Health” in cooperation with the research team of New York University and HealthRight in Ukraine.

Its purpose was to study the current state of mental health of healthcare workers (doctors and nurses) in primary healthcare facilities in Ukraine in order to develop recommendations for post-war interventions and plan the implementation of trauma-informed healthcare services.

The geography of the study covered all regions of Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied territories.

Research target groups:

·         General practitioners/family doctors or district general practitioners and pediatricians

·         Nurses providing primary healthcare services.

At the first stage, 30 in-depth interviews were conducted with healthcare workers providing primary healthcare services. Taking into account the data obtained, the research team finalized the questionnaire for the online survey of healthcare workers. It was answered by 2055 respondents representing all regions of Ukraine.

The key focuses of the research:

·         The presence/absence of mental health problems among healthcare workers (e.g., sleep problems, mood swings, anxiety, etc.)

·         Experience of healthcare workers regarding internal displacement, occupation, participation in hostilities and/or injury/ captivity (of the respondent or his/her family members), experience of losing property (e.g., housing) as a result of war and other psycho-traumatic factors.

·         Healthcare workers’ assessment of the work environment (level of satisfaction with key aspects of work, including workplace safety, emotional burnout, etc.)
