This publication presents the results of bio-behavioral monitoring study among prisoners. The completed work in its scope and quality of the data is unique. Unlike previous surveys conducted in institutions of the State Penitentiary Service for the first time in Ukraine nationally linked research of awareness and behavior as surveillance component of the second generation is implemented. According to a specially developed technique the questionnaire survey among the prisoners and their testing for HIV was conducted, allowing the analysis of the connection between knowledge, behavior and the level of HIV infection of people convicted in prison facilities. National indicators of monitoring and evaluation on activities effectiveness to control the status of HIV / AIDS in prisons were designed and the recommendations for improving the strategy and tactics to prevent the spread of HIV / AIDS in prison facilities.
